Target Audience Interview

In both interviews we asked 9 questions:

1. What do you find appealing in the rock music genre?
2. What would you expect to see in the music video of a rock song?
3. Would you expect the editing in a rock genre video to be fast or slow paced?
4. Any particular song or narrative you expect to see in the song 'Ain't No Rest For The Wicked'?
5. What do you like about 'Ain't No Rest For The Wicked'?
6. Do you enjoy listening to songs made for video games?
7. What do you want to see in this music video we're making?
8. What do you find unappealing about Rock genre music videos?
9. Do you prefer the narrative to make sense or to be more unique?

We asked these questions to two people, James Ward and George Griffiths, we asked these two people because they fit our target audience being people who are fond of the rock genre and play console and computer games.

Key findings:

  • Both people find the fast and upbeat pace most appealing about the Rock genre.
  • Pace of editing should match the pace of the song, if it is fast, editing should connote power, happy/fast paced should have lots of cuts etc.
  • George cannot find any other video ideas for 'Ain't No Rest For The Wicked' whereas James thinks the video should always include the band doing something, in order to attract appeal and to advertise themselves.
  • James says some certain songs will work with different types of media instead of just music, and those should be used accordingly.
  • Both people found a feeble or weak atmosphere unappealing about the Rock genre, is it was mellow and not very loud, "It just drags on, a slow narrative and slow music, it makes you very bored.".
  • Unique editing techniques would increase interest in the music video and make it better to watch.
Changes made:

  • We will attempt to match the pace of the song with editing and cuts.
  • Not using a band within our song as an "advertisement" of the artists as it can be less interesting.
  • Filming in older locations as well as urban and street environments in order to attract older audiences.
  • Using different camera and editing techniques considered unique and experimenting to see if they have any effect on the atmosphere of the film.
